Internal Medicine Program

 Our Goals

The Internal Medicine program at Jefferson Health Northeast is a three year, ACGME accredited program committed to providing residents with the best educational training to be well-rounded, competent physicans. Residents rotate at three campuses (Torresdale, Frankford, and Bucks) to manage a diverse range of patients, pathology, disease processes, and treatments. Under the Jefferson umbrella, this program offers residents a close-knit community environment with strong academic resources and vast learning opportunities.

Our program is unique in that it provides extra critical care training with six months spent in the ICU throughout residency. This provides residents with the skills to manage and treat critically ill patients. At the end of this time, residents have the procedural skills and knowledge to handle unstable patients.

Additionally, there is no 24 or 36 hour call. Instead, the traditional call schedule is replaced with the night float system, which is two, 2 week blocks of 12 hour shifts throughout the academic year in an effort to eliminate resident fatigue and stress.

Our program's goal is to provide high quality didactic training, strong clinical decision making, procedural competence, teaching opportunities, and a supportive, positive environment to each resident. At the end of residency, our residents prove to be competent, confident, and outstanding internal medicine physicians capable of working in both community and academic settings. Resident's career goals range from Hospitalist Medicine, Ambulatory Medicine, and Fellowships including ICU, Cardiology, Infectious Disease, GI and many others. Many of our alumni remain on staff as faculty attendings after graduation.
